As children we spend a lot of our time playing. We play with others and we play alone. We play for the fun of it, we play to build knowledge, to develop skill sets, and to stimulate our imagination…

In watching my son grow day by day, I’ve come to see many parallels with being a musician. We play too, that's what we do… Like children, musicians play together with others and we play alone. In playing, we also create and express ourselves, we learn, grow, and evolve. And of course, in playing, we also have fun.

This album was made with the intention of doing something as spontaneous and light as possible, with the playful spirit of a child. I wrote a number of new songs for the occasion. I wanted them to be organic and natural. These are melodies and rhythms that came to my mind while traveling, playing concerts and spending time with my family.

For bandmates, I assembled a trio with two of my long-time friends, two musicians I met in New York City when I was still very young. Clovis Nicolas and I go way back. We met when he just moved to NYC over 20 years ago. We've done a lot of concerts and tours together, shared the same apartment for some time, and talked about life and music form any hours. He is a very much in-demand bass player around the world, and is a top-notch musician. We understand each other very well musically and he was an obvious choice forme. Jason Brown was on one of my first recordings (Down With It) and we’ve played together a lot through the years. He is truly one of the best drummers of his generation and an incredible person who always brings a feeling of ease and enjoyment to every musical situation he’s involved in. Stephane Belmondo immediately came to my mind as a guest because of his natural talent and his playful spontaneity.He is a highly soulful and authentic trumpeter whose voice fits right in with the mood of the recording.

There is nothing pretentious about the music on this album. Simply four musicians having fun, playing as children would on a playground. I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy themusic!
